How it works
Every number this app shows you comes from arithmetic over what you typed. These pages publish that arithmetic — the formula, the sets it runs on, and the cases where it declines to answer.
These pages describe arithmetic, not physiology. Kiptly counts and adds up the sets you type in; it does not observe your body, diagnose anything, or tell you whether training is advisable for you. Nothing here is medical advice, and none of these numbers is a measurement of anything about you.
Six kinds of record, the formula behind the estimated one-rep max, and the sets the app refuses to guess from.
How a set becomes volume, how bodyweight work is priced, and what the muscle map is counting.
The rule that suggests your next weight, written out in full — it is a rule, not a model.
What a percentage in a programme is a percentage of, and where that number comes from.
The constants on these pages are read out of the API when this site is built, and the build fails if two copies of the same formula stop agreeing. A stale number here would be worse than none: the whole point of the section is that you can check it.
